Attendance

At Lee Royd Nursery School we recognise that attending school regularly has a positive impact on learning, progress and therefore the best life chances for children.  We will encourage good attendance for all pupils, by offering an environment in which pupils feel valued and part of the school community.  We promote a culture across the school which identifies the importance of regular and punctual attendance.

We will monitor attendance at both individual pupil and whole school level.   At Lee Royd Nursery School we will seek to achieve at least an attendance level of at least 85% due to the children’s age.  We ask that parents inform us on the first day of absence and this will be recorded on the register.  If we don’t hear from the parents, a member of staff will be contacting parents to ask why their child is absent.

Why regular attendance is so important?

Lee Royd Nursery School is an inclusive nursery and we wish for all children to have the best educational experience they can.  Regular nursery attendance is an important part of giving children the best possible start in life. The aim should be to attend 100% of the time. Coming to nursery helps to develop:  Friendships, Social skills, Life skills, Cultural awareness, Early reading and writing skills and Numeracy skills to name a few.

Attendance Incentives

We celebrate the ‘best class attendance’ each week. The Class which has the highest percentage attendance for the full week receives a Golden Star to put on there attendance board at the class entrance.  The Golden Stars are counted up and each half term the class with the highest number of Golden Stars will receive a special treat day!

Punctuality

Being late for register time affects both your child’s learning and that of the rest of the class. Important instructions and learning is missed and having to join the class when everybody else is settled and ready to learn is disruptive.  Being late means a member of staff has to stop their teaching activity with children, to come and let your child into Nursery.  Being late can cause them to miss out on valuable time with their key worker learning essential skills.  Please make sure that you bring and collect your child at the correct time.  Remember it can also be distressing for your child if you are not there to receive them at the end of the session.

Morning session –Doors open at 9:00am, please be as close to 9:00am as possible.
